Why women buy shoes - excessively

Where did the time go. First of all thank you everyone for your great tips. Sharing your experience on how you deal with the cleaning when you are expecting guests made me feel much more relaxed. Let me start out by saying that I always whine about having a cleaning lady come in once a week. Though even if I had the money I would probably have a hard time letting anyone clean shit up that I could easily do myself. I would probably be one of the people that would clean before the maid comes in so she doesn’t think I am messy. Yep and while I am at it I would probably do it all by myself anyway, which then in turn would make a maid obsolete. Quite the predicament but since I don’t have money to spare I am not tempted.

Who among you has a cleaning lady come in and if so, how often and do you clean before she gets there? I always set out to clean a little on weekdays. However all I actually get done is some laundry and the dishwasher. The sooner it gets dark the less energy I seem to have for household chores. It is quite upsetting. I made a pact with the hubby and also with myself to at least clean the bathroom and vacuum the floors on Wednesdays and still do the proper cleaning on Saturdays. We shall see if we’re able to stick with it.

In the end all the cleaning was done just in time before my friend arrived on Friday night. We picked her up from the airport and took her to our favorite Italian restaurant. We were thinking of taking her to some Bavarian restaurant but left the choice to her. She is a vegetarian and since most Bavarian specialties have a considerable amount of meat in them she felt safer someplace else. We had a lot of catching up to do and we continued that over a bottle of wine at home before heading to bed at 2:00 am.

Saturday was as foggy, rainy and miserable as it could get. Sightseeing was thus out of the question. So we slept in, had a lovely brunch and then went into town for some shoe shopping. If anyone’s ever been to Ireland they will appreciate that shoe shopping there is not a pleasure if you need shoes bigger than a size 6. Also most of the shoe shops there have one item on display and you have to send a clerk running for every pair you want to try on. So the five shoe shops all conveniently located within half a mile on the same road were heaven to her. She left every store with at least one pair of shoes. Needless to say we had a blast and were knackered by the time we got home at 4pm. I have been good by only buying two pairs of shoes. What is it with women and shoes? I can’t figure it out myself but it is as though we kinda lose it when we enter a shoe shop.

Anyway we dressed up, put on our new purchase and headed out to dinner. We brought our dear friend, colleague and cat sitter along. Chinese was the choice and it was packed. We got a table and had a great time. We decided to go home for a few cocktails and started playing drinking games. I am sure our neighbors below us did not have as good a night as they thought they were going to have and I sincerely apologize. It is just that it was so much fun that we couldn’t and didn’t want to stop. As the clock inched toward 3am we headed to bed and it was the first time in a very, very, very long time that I drank more than I do if I drink. I wasn’t sick or feeling unwell but I could definitely feel I was merry and tipsy. Under normal circumstances I don’t drink at all and the last drink I had may well be more than two months ago.

Sunday came around and we had another lovely brunch before bringing my friend to the airport again. I hate to see them leave. The house feels so empty without them. She did not leave without presenting us with a lovely belated wedding present however. We got this gorgeous candle holder from Newbridge Silverware. It is lovely and I hope to post pictures very soon. We had a great time and I do really miss her. We hope to go back to Dublin for a visit as soon as possible.

If I don’t forget to upload pictures I will post some later.

Love shoes and apparently I should definitely head to Ireland next summer for my European trip because I'm a size 6! LOL

I quit cleaning up for the cleaning lady. She comes in twice a month roughly and I'm just too busy to pick up before she gets there. I used to be rigid about it, but I got over it. It feels good to get over it!

I need a good old fashion shoe shopping trip. Perhaps I should put that on the schedule...

Our cleaning service comes every other week and beforehand I make sure that everything is picked up (nothing on the tables or floor, laundry put away, towels in the washer, etc.)- they do the rest (vacuuming, mopping, bathrooms, kitchen, dusting). I usually clean the weekend in between the weeks that they come and do the vacuuming and any dusting that HAS to be done. Otherwise our house stays pretty clean.

Sounds like you had a great weekend. You make me want to shoe shop! But my feet are too swollen! BOO!

I'm so glad you had a fun weekend! And your neighbors will get over it, especially if you don't normally disturb.

I think I am among the shoe minority...I HATE shoes. I think it stems from the fact that I wear a size 11 shoe and anything above a 9 1/2 is shoved into the far back corner of the shoe store. It's hard to have cute feet when the shoes (okay, and the feet) are enormous...

I'm laughing as I read this because right after the closing on my house, I went an bought a pair of shoes. And if I didn't have my car towed yesterday, I would have bought more!

It's not the first time I've heard it, but I'm totally going to start using "Knackered". I just love it!

I'll be back to normal blogging now that my house selling days are OVER!! Yippeeeeeeeeee

@ Patty-true a woman can never have too many shoes

@ Spazzgirl-yep you'll be in shoe heaven there

@ Pocklock-I'm pretty sure I would get over it but still feel a bit weird.Probably worth a shot.

@ Jeninacide-your feet will be back to normal soon. Can't wait to see pics of your cutie for the first time

@ Melisa- oh that is mean. I know how you feel. With bigger feet this is how I felt in Ireland where everybody seems to run around with tiny, tiny elf like feet

@ Mags-glad to hear that you sold your house and you moved so Yay. Looking forward to read how you settle in as a city girl...Knackered is a cool word. A knacker in Ireland is something else and Dublin's northside (where as they claim tons of "knackers" are living is jokingly referred to as Knackeragua) This is not really true however :)

Sounds like you had a super fun weekend! Sorry I haven't been commenting as much - home's been busy and work blocked random parts of Blogger. I've been reading every day though - I'm so glad that you were able to spend time with Elaine! :)

P.S. - I would have mailed you some turkey if I could have. :)

I love that you say "knackered" - I'm going to try to incorporate that into my vocabulary. I don't have a housekeeper but I hope to be able to afford it when we have kids. I feel like I spend so much of my weekend cleaning now, I can't imagine what it would be like if we had a kid too. I completely relate on cleaning like a crazy person before company arrives - I obsess over it!
