New Haircut

This weekend I will get my hair cut. I got the last available appointment with my favorite hairstylist this Saturday. It will be at 8am. Yes AM.
I was really lucky to get an appointment after all. I only made that appointment a week in advance and at that time you normally can’t get anything for love nor money.

I did notice the quizzical expression on my hubby’s face. He cannot understand why I can’t just go and find a hairstylist here and why women have a close relationship with their hairdressers. I for one am happy and contend with the girl that does my hair. She does a great job dyeing it and she cuts it exactly the way I want it. She is quick, she doesn’t do small talk and I always leave being fully satisfied.

I am hesitant to go to a hairdresser here. Although I am sure there are some very able ones among the hundreds of stylists in our area, it is just that it takes me ages to find someone that a) doesn’t chew my ears off making small talk, b) is quick and c) does exactly what I asked her/him to do. I found that hairdresser a long time ago and we have a respectful, trusting relationship. I know it won’t cost me an arm and a leg. I will go and see her whenever I get a chance. Which is not always easy with us living about three hours away.

The whole experience is something I like very much. You get there and it is as if you’re in a totally different world. It smells nice, the atmosphere is relaxing, you get great coffee and the head massage. I mean whoever would give you a head massage like this. It is almost too much. If I wasn’t already married I would have to propose right then and there. It is an almost sexual experience.
Are you just as peculiar about the chosing your hair stylist or is it just me and my friends. I sometimes think I should just try something new. Be daring but then I always chicken out.

Anyway, this is what I am looking forward to on Saturday morning more about the weekend to come once it is over.

WHERE the heck are you driving to get to your hairdresser? And you have to leave around 5 a.m.? Wow!

But I get it. :)
I just happen to have hair that is:
1. just a one-color process when I get it dyed, so practically a five-year-old can do it,
and
2. really fine textured so I get a very basic cut each time, so practically a five-year-old can do it...so I wouldn't personally drive three hours for my hairdresser, but I understand. :)

Working in an upscale nail salon, I see many, many clients who would drive to the ends of the earth to get their nails done by their nail technician and nobody else. You should hear the tantrums some of the clients have if their girl is out sick for a day and we have to put them with someone else: some of them just cancel the appointment entirely until their girl is back at work!

I LOVE getting my hair cut, but ONLY if I know the stylist. I went with a different one this last time just b/c I HAD to get it cut (I have layers) and she totally hacked it.

Oooo...I love getting my hair washed, then blown out-it's so nice and bouncy and pretty after.

Yes, please post pictures!! And an 8am appointment is great! You have the WHOLE day to look most fabulous. ;)

I am totally not your typical girl when it comes to hairstylists. My mother flies here (Portland, Oregon) from Minneappolis, Minnesota (about 2000 miles away) to get her haircut. Me? I go to the same barber shop as my husband. It is walk-in's only- but they give you beer while you wait. Typically I go on Saturdays and you have to wait longer, thus you drink more beer prior to the haircut. By the time the haircut rolls around you don't really care what it looks like... So yeah... I'm not picky. Clearly. Although my hair could use a pick-me-up right about now!!

Haha, me too! My biggest beauty shop pet peeve is the chit-chat. Of course, the worse is when I get my brows waxed - that's waayyyy toooo painful to worry about social niceties!!

I don't like talking too much with the hairdressers too! I also hate it when they start asking questions about my personal life.

My mom hates getting a hair cut. She goes once every 2-3 months, and goes super super early (like 7:30AM) to beat the "rush" and only lets them trim very very little. Then she comes home, showers, and fixes her hair.
