Supernanny

My experience with kids is limited to occasional babysitting and my year as an Au Pair. I do have the utmost respect for parents and moms who raise their kids and put a lot of thought into their kids education.

I am currently sitting at home watching 'Supernanny', a reality tv show where a nanny goes into a family to aid them with misbehaving children.

Tonight I came across the worst case yet. The mother is displaying no common sense and acts ten times worse than the brats she's raised. It is so bad that I had to change channels about five minutes into the show. I am sure that parenting has got to be the most challenging thing there is but boy did I want to smash someone's head tonight.

I will tune in towards the end to see if that family can be helped or if they are beyond help already. In the meantime I will cuddle with the cats before we're heading off to visit the parents in law tomorrow.

That show makes me tired! I think they are picking worse and worse cases just for ratings - apparently it's having the opposite effect if it's such a train wreck that you turn it off!

Ya - they definitely pick the extreme cases for those shows...

I don't think ANY of the families on that show can be helped - I can't stand it! I prefer to watch the dysfunctional Real Housewives of Orange County, anyway.

OH my yes....those parents are so freakin insane......I often wonder how they even survive in those households. How can they be at all happy?
I think Jo usually has great advice, but I really wish I knew how many of the families are really helped and stick with it.

oh and I am having computer trouble I am booted a lot, so I am reading, but not always commenting.

I have always thought that there are some people that shouldn't be able to raise kids. That show is insane some times and can be very frustrating!!!

Thank you for your comment. You are a sweetie.

And they wonder why their KIDS act up...? Amazing, isn't it?

Ha! You won't be surprised that your American evil twin religiously watches "Supernanny" and often wants to smash someone's head as well.

I think I watch it out of fascination that there are parents out there that let things get so far out of control. Last night the episode had the oldest kids on it I've seen: 8 and 11!! It looked at the end like it was going to be okay for that family BUT they didn't do a Family Update like always, so I'm thinking that they failed.

When I watch, I am like a sportsfan watching a game. I talk to the tv: I yell at the parents (not really yell, but "sternly scold") and I say things like "Good for her!" when Jo does something that I would totally do. (which is most things: LOL)

Good television, but yes, the cases are extreme...like one of my other favorites: "Wife Swap". :)

Yeah, I can't look away from Supernanny either and like Melissa I am totally screaming at my TV the whole time..."Just say No!!!"
People are morons, especially the ones who let their kids hit them!

(and wife swap is also dreadfully wonderful!)

I always used to watch this before I had kids and I was like "OMG THESE PARENTS HAVE NOOO COMMON SENSE!" They drive me nuts. A lot of them shouldn't even be parents in my opinion.

I hope that Supernanny helps them though. Although you never know what they do once the cameras are no longer on them...

I am morbidly fascinated with Supernanny! Even knowing that they pick the worst cases still leaves me baffled that there are parents and children like that.

My kid was up one night because of an upset tummy and she gaped at the TV the entire time. When it was over she asked if people needed to go to school to be parents. When I said no, she said, "Well some people should."

I have seen a few episodes with my children and use them as cautionary tales. I tell them that their father and I have rules so that we don't end up like those messed up families.

was it the one where the 8-year-old would bitch slap her mom during tantrums? If so, my mom and I were both disgusted by it and feel that the mother should have never been allowed to procreate, she's a nut case.

That show really is terrifying. So often it's the parents that need the nanny, not the poor kids.

Argh!

Every time I catch a few minutes of that show, I'm SO grateful that my parents raised my brother and I with some common sense.

.........TAJ...congratz for this wonderfull comment. But seriously, what is wrong with the world? You need a license to drive a car, to buy a gun, even to buy alc. , but for raising a child the world simply says: What do i care? What could happen...This is driving me insane..

So long..
