I am restless

For some reason I am restless. I usually settle down with a nice book at home and put it down when I am finished with it. Not that I read one book in one sitting. I used to be able to do that. Not any more though as I am now gainfully employed and out of the house for the great part of my waking hours. The rest of which are filled by spending time with the hubby, playing with the kittens and doing household chores.

When I used to take up a book I could not concentrate on anything else. I would read two or three books at the same time but finish them all or else I would feel sick. I have the sneaking suspicion that is what they call compulsive behavior. Still I have the urge to finish a book. No matter how bad I think it is. There’s only ever been one book that I did not finish. It was Peter Hoeg’s “ The History of Danish Dreams”. What a load of s**te it was and I could not force my self to continue reading it. I wonder have you got the same problems? Do you have to finish a book once you started it and which book have you deliberately stopped reading because you thought it was terrible?

Looking for a good read last night I realized that I have started about four or five books or so that I haven’t finished. It always felt like they are lacking something to entertain me. So I am waiting for a book that I can truly enjoy. If you have any suggestions please do let me know. I am kind of desperate at the moment. The last one that really captured me and made me laugh my head off at the same time was Tommy Jaud’s Millionär. A great German novel that was moving and hilarious all the same. Can’t wait to read his other two books.

I aslo have the same problem. If I'm not truly entertained by the book, I don't get to finish it or would take me forever to finish it lol. If the book is fun to read, I can read it in one sitting and not do anything but read. Maybe the book doesn't entertain you much or maybe you just get distracted easily now since you have a full-time job

Yes I think it may actually be a bit of both. I have been working fulltime for some years now but it might really be the lack of quality and entertainment of the books themselves paired with the feeling I should be doing the laundry or empty the dishwasher etc.

kind a know what you mean. however, books are like people. more importantly, most often they reflect the person's image on certain views which are the book's subject. being in general a people liker, regardless of their origin, language or other unimportant details, I have met many individuals which were most definitely not worth it to "read all the way to the last page". luckily, the older I get, the quicker I can establish whether or not a person catches all of my interest or only a tiny bit. maybe the last two sentences do not show completely my passion for your human beings, but in spite of the harsh decisions I make regarding people I feel that I need to know better I am definitely pro-people. but since books barely ever talk back I would always settle for the couch, a blanket, a cuppa and a good book than for going to a party and having to talk to people whom I'm just not interested in.... the little one.
