Not a baker

Last night I tried to bake a cheescake to bring into work. As I enjoy cooking much more than baking I have a hard time. I have to stick to the recipe and tend to prepare everything beforehand. I measure everything and make sure it is set up in the order it goes into the cake.

Only last night I was interrupted many times by friends and family calling on my birthday. While it was great that everyone remembered my birthday I got confused by what had to go into the cake. When the cake was in the oven and I was clearing the kitchen counters and putting the dishes into the dishwasher, I realized that I forgot to put in one ingredient. Luckily the cake came out well.

Nobody in work noticed and I kept schtum. This just proves that I can't really bake if my life would depend on it. I can't be inventive as I am when cooking and always need to stick to the original recipe. I can't tell whether the cake is really done or not. Nor can I enjoy baking. Cooking is relaxing to me. I get a kick out of preparing a meal. It has something soothing - at least to me. Whereas I am always stressed out when baking. Do you feel the same? Or is it just me?

Hallo liebe Katrin,

A little something from me. Unverzeichlicherweise habe ich den 24. September 2007 als den Tag Deiner Landung totally übersehen und von daher völlig verpennt ( siehe dazu auch bildliche Beschreibung:

I like cooking but never tried baking yet! That's one of my to-do list someday. I like cooking too and it gives me a sense of accomplishment and happiness everytime I cook something delicious and appreciated by others. I wonder what you forgot to include in your cheesecake recipe? I bet it's still good coz your friends didn't notice it. I wish I can bake too! ***Hoping***

Well, my answer probably doesn't count b/c I'm a chef, but I totally understand how cooking is relaxing to you. When I'm in the kitchen I am focused and calm and it just feels right.

I do love baking though. I think because what comes out are usually what people love more-chocolate, cakes, you know, the good stuff!

Glad your cake came out well!

I can hardly cook or bake....but here's what I feel comfortable with: experimenting with cookie recipes. I may start with a basic oatmeal cookie recipe---but the next thing you know, I've thrown in M&Ms, coconut, & chocolate chips. I just mix it up!
