Snow, who haz them? They been stealing ma snow

What a wonderful weekend we had. After a lovely breakfast on Saturday morning we decided on a whim to jump into the car and head wherever the road would take us. Incidently it took us into the mountains. Being that Munich is really close to the Alps we would invariably end up there. So did thousands of others. The drive was great. Unfortunately the Chinese and people from the US especially the IL area were stealing our snow. It was kind of pathetic driving along at 4000ft in the middle of February and seeing the green that is usually covered under a six foot snow blanket this time of year. Yep, climate change is alive and well. We should have listened to Al Gore! In the lower right corner you can still see people cross country skiing. It's so odd.
The slopes were open but it just didn't look right without the trees being covered in snow.

So we ended up paying a little visit to Garmisch Partenkirchen, where some downhill world cup race was held and it was incredibly busy. So we went over the Alps and into Austria. All in all we did a nice little roundtrip before eating the biggest Schnitzel we have ever seen and heading home.

KAT!!! OMG, I was in Garmisch-Partenkirchen in '83! :)

I'm...err..sorry we have all your snow. You can come and take it and I won't mind. In fact, we're supposed to get another 5 inches this evening. No Global Warming here!

The Alps looked lovely to me; thanks for posting the photos. Makes me want to jump on a plane...but you knew that. :)

I will gladly give you my snow. Today will be the 41st day of measurable snow accumulation this winter AND if we get just 2.1 inches (which they're predicting more today), we'll break the 78-79 record of 76.1 inches that winter. High today is 10 and low is -5. WTF!

Glad I'm moving to CA in a few months. Geez---I hate Wisconsin! ;)

Beautiful pics, even without snow!

That is so amazingly cool! What a road trip!

No snow hear, but it is a whopping 7 degrees Fahrenheit. 7. If it hits double digits today it'll be heat wave.

Ack!! I would be so happy to send you our snow. I'll pack it up in a jar and send it your way...you might have to freeze it back up when it gets to you.. ;)

Cool photos!!

Melisa See that is a sign to come back here again asap :)

Tearsinmycoffee Phew that is cold and I only want a little snow really :) Lucky you. You get to move to CA.

Pocklock Brrrrr cold but no snow either? So weird. I would have expected the odd snow day in CT

Melissa wouldn't it be great if we could bottle some summer and/or winter and then open a jar whenever we feel like it?

you can HAVE our snow, we're getting more today!
Sounds so weird...went for a ride, wound up in the alps...I usually just wind up at a boring mall. LOL

Stealing? STEALING? I have news for you- you are the only one who likes the snow. All your neighbors dumped all your snow on us!

BTW, this is not political; I am nerd and LOVE science. Al Gore is bad, sorry, sloppy, jazzed up for mass consumption "Science". There has been global warming (although it stopped rising in '99) but the hypothesis that it was caused by human activity is tenuous at best.

The polar ice caps on Mars have been receding too. The temperatures on Venus and Mercury are rising too. There are no oil wells, SUV's or Republicans on those other planets so Mr. Gore, how is that possible? What do all those planets have in common? {sigh} I’ll stop now.

I love, love, love (or triple love if you prefer) going on impromptu road trips like that. Isn't it fantastic? I always feel so free and adventurous even if I end up somewhere lame.

But you didn't! What beautiful photos. :)

And also, just how big was this Schnitzel you speak of? And why is there no photo?

Wow - I am so jealous that so many cool things are just a drive away for you.

Spazzgirlg See if we had a mall I would have wound up in one too *lol* Nah sometimes we just feel like being out and about and not in a city.

Rob Well that is a topic that I could go on about forever. Al Gore is the first thing that popped into my head while writing this. I am currently reading a book by a German author and though it is purely ficitional it is great and made me think. About a guy who inherits 1000 Billion Dollars and who needs to fullfill the prophecy to give mankind a future. Scary real life scenarios. The stopping of the gulf stream etc. and I don't mean the aircraft :). Anyway I guess you're right

Mags Impromptu road trips are the greatest. You just head off, no expectations so you won't be disappointed. Usually they are the best.

Don Mills Dive Hehe I would imagine that cool things are only a drive away from where you live. It's just that you're probably used to having them around you by now:)

We don't have your snow here! It was 75 degrees and sunny in Florida yesterday. Your pics looks amazing! I wish I could just drive into the mountains for the afternoon. I guess I can't complain, I have the beach. The grass is always greener...
